The FAME is a site devoted to the systematic and scientific study of flags and coats of arms. Such symbols often bear strong political and other messages. Inclusion of those symbols here does not mean that the author supports or approves of the ideas they may stand for.	This site is harvested for the NSK digital archives.

The regulations on the local flags in Croatia require that a flag of a city or community be of a field of one colour with the coat of arms in the middle or offset towards hoist. Some exceptions from this rule are tolerated for the cities with traditional flag established before these rules were made, while some cities choose to ignore the regulations and use a flag of their liking. It may be that in time the latter exceptions would be replaced.
In 1997 the communities of Belišće and Donji Miholjac were given city status, while the city of Našice was included from Požega and Slavonia County.

Osijek

The coat of arms is based the one granted in 1809 by king Francis I, today in much simplified form: In blue field a silver bridge with a tower, above it an escutcheon Argent an Arm embowed Gules holding a Sabre proper. The coat of arms bordered golden is set in the middle of a landesfarben style flag of white over blue bicolour. The colours are those from the coat of arms. The flag is also used in long vertical version, occasionally without the coat of arms, too. The flag was used in such way much before 1990's.

Beli Manastir

The coat of arms of Beli Manastir is azure St. Martin standing on embattled wall argent issuant from the base holding in his dexter a cross or and in his sinister a part of his coat gules. St. Martin is the saint patron of Beli Manastir, he is shown clead as a Roman soldier. The flag is blue with the coat of arms in the middle. There is also a vertical variant of the flag.

Belišće

The coat of arms is Gules two leaves Argent addorsed and in base three barrulets of the same. The coat of arms is canting picturing leaves (Croatian lišće) of poplar tree, once abundantly surrounding the city, and characterized indeed by the whitish leaves. It also symbolizes the paper industry that initiated the prosperity of the city. The three stripes represent three rivers surrounding the city: Drava, Karašica and Vučica. The flag is yellow with the coat of arms in the middle.

Until 1997 Belišće had status of a community.

Donji Miholjac

The coat of arms pictures Archangel Michael, the namesake of the town, holding a sword and red oval shield with white cross standing over a dragon. This coat of arms is based on the 1906 seal of the marketplace Donji Miholjac. The flag is white with yellow bordered coat of arms in the middle. The ceremonial flag is a white triangularly ending gonfalon with the coat of arms in the middle the name of the community in green in two arches above and two green oak branches with golden acorns.

Until 1997 Donji Miholjac had status of a community.

Đakovo

The coat of arms of Đakovo is azure on a base vert the clasicistic facade of the Parish Church of All Saints argent roofed gules ensigned with St. Peter stantant holding a book in his right and a key in his left hand in dexter and St. Paul stantant holding a sword in his right and a book in his left hand, both nimbed or and in chief two mullets also or. The coat of arms is based on a seal from late 18th century, used as a coat of arms already in the early 19th century. The flag, white over purple bicolour with the coat of arms in the centre of it is adopted in 1992. The flag is based on the Vatica bicolour (variation), where the purple (carmin-lilac) stripe instead of the yellow, signifies Đakovo as a seat of diocese.

The official descriptions stipulate the outlines in the arms should be golden, however, variations with the black lines instead are also in wide use.

Đakovo, 1986 – 1992

No flag.

The historical coat of arms of Đakovo was not official used after the World War II. Only in 1986 a new design was adopted, with that historical arms surrounded with the elements of the socialist upbuilding. In the outlines there are the cathedral and modern buildings siluettes, wavy lines standing for the rivers Vuka and Sava. The five pointed star is at the top, with two ribbons falling from it. On the right it is inscribed the historical name DYAKO and the year 1239, when a charter determining the city tarritory was issued, and on the left the modern name and the liberation year 1945. In the base there are symbols of agriculture, industry, woodworks and vine growing. The colours of the arms were not determined. The same arms with the year 1989 on the left ribbon and an aditional ribbon inscribed "750th anniversary of the city" was used that year on the occasion of the celebration.

Našice

The coat of arms is Azure, on a two mounts as many Churches Argent roofed Gules adorsed. This is based on the marketplace seal of 1880, as coloured by Laszowski. The seal included similar depiction although different in minor artistic details, with a natural red lily flower on a long stalk along the sinister edge. The flag is blue with yellow bordered coat of arms in the middle.

The City of Našice was in Požega and Slavonia County until 1997.

Valpovo

The coat of arms of Valpovo shows a golden circular tower with small turrets on a bridge in a green field. A flag of green with this (or very similar) coat of arms was in use at least since 1970's.
