Before the new Croatian flag was adopted the weekly magazine Danas, on the initiative of Boris Ljubičić, issued a series of articles with number of proposals for the new flag by some eminent experts of various fields. Small choice of those is shown here.

This proposal was also first issued in Danas in 1990, but his author never gave up the idea and more or less actively works on its publication as part of his project for the new visual identity of the Republic of Croatia. Boris Ljubičić, an academic painter from Zagreb proposed a flag based on chequy pattern with red, white and blue cheques. The design was also used in the intro jingle on the Croatian TV for the elections for the Sabor 2000 and the elections for Civic assembly of the City of Zagreb.
