[The FAME - Flag and Arms of the Modern Era]

The FAME is a site devoted to the systematic and scientific study of flags and coats of arms. Such symbols often bear strong political and other messages. Inclusion of those symbols here does not mean that the author supports or approves of the ideas they may stand for.

Sisak and Moslavina County

Sisačko-moslavačka županija

Legal notice: The counties, cities and communities in the Republic of Croatia by their decision on adoption and use of the coats of arms and flags limit the use of these symbols only after obtaining an explicit written permission. However, most of the units of local government and self-government by the same decisions explicitly allow the free use of the symbols in the educational and scientific purposes and in the artistic creation, under condition that such use does not offend the dignity and honour of the local unit. The author of these pages considers that the depiction of the coats of arms and the flags here meets the conditions of free use in that sense.

The coat of arms is divided per pale in green with a stork and light blue with down-pointing sword, all bordered by a golden outline and crowned with a crown consisting of seven towers. The crown is derived from a similar crown of the capital Sisak. Stork is native in the region, and there is a nature reserve famous for storks along Sava River in the County. The sword is symbol determination of the people to defend themselves, but it is down-pointed as a sign of readiness to peace. The flag is blue with a red and a white stripe along the hoist, and with the coat of arms in the centre of it, properly rotated for horizontal or vertical hoisting.
Neither coat of arms nor the flag were approved by the Ministry of Administration. The remarks of the Ministry are the crown, which they find unsuitable as symbol of suzerainty which the County lacks (being administrative unit only). The flag is not according to the regulations that require the county flags to be of two colours only. However, even without the approval both the coat of arms and the flag are in extensive use in the County. It seems that at one point the Ministry approved symbols based (but not equal to) on these designs, but the alegedly approved symbols are not used.
