The FAME is a site devoted to the systematic and scientific study of flags and coats of arms. Such symbols often bear strong political and other messages. Inclusion of those symbols here does not mean that the author supports or approves of the ideas they may stand for. |

The county coat of arms is in general the same as the coat of arms of the Srijem county of 1748 (claims the modern county decision, other sources give the date of grant as 6 June 1747) granted by Maria Theresia: Azure three bars Argent and overall on a mount Vert a deer gorged Or sejant by a tree proper. The three white bars represent three rivers of the region - Donau, Sava and Bosut. The golden collar on the deer is symbol of richness, and the Slavonian oak tree is symbol of natural wealth of the region. In the original coat of arms of 18th century in place of the oak there was a cypress tree (other sources say poplar), while the river-bars were made of wavy lines. The coat of arms was crowned with a golden crown.
The flag is made of seven yellow (golden) and white stripes, with the coat of arms in the middle. The unusual, non-rectangualr shape of the flag, and the difference from the prescribed ratio of flag 1:2, was approved by the Ministry of Administration, possibly based on some earlier preserved flag, however, the details remain unknown. The prescribed size of the flag is 105 × 200 cm with square tails of 15 × 15 cm. At least around 2000 the unsual horizontal rectangular flag was also introduced in use.
During the time when it was not possible to form the seat of the government in Vukovar while it was occupied, the temporarily seat of administration was set in Vinkovci.
