[The FAME - Flag and Arms of the Modern Era]

The FAME is site devoted to systematic and scientific study of flags and coats of arms. Such symbols often bear strong political and other messages. Inclusion of those symbols here does not mean that the author support or approve the ideas they may stand for.

Yugoslavia, 1963 - 1991

Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia, 1963 - 1991, Socijalistička Federativna Republika Jugoslavija

In 1963 the country constitution was reformed resulting in the change of the name of the state and symbols. The coat of arms was changed so that it now included six torches representing the number of the republics in the Federation. Yugoslavia was disbanded in 1991, and the remaining two republics - Serbia and Montenegro formed a new state of the same name continuing to use its symbols until 1992.
Following the changes in the military organization some flags were eventually renamed and used for different functions, and following the death of Marchal Tito in 1980, flags reflecting the colective presidency were introduced. Probably at this time the set of separate flags for generals were replaced with a single design for all ranks.
