M. Vončina, J. Medved, P. Mrvar - Energy of precipitation of Al2Cu and α-AlFeSi phase from the AlCu3 alloy and the shape of precipitates

AlCu3 alloy was examined with the triple simple thermal analysis (TETA), the simultaneous thermal analysis (STA), the computer simulation using Thermo-Calc program and with the metallographic analyses. The energy of solidification and melting of the primary and the eutectic phase, and the energy of the Al2Cu precipitation were determined, and these can be evidently seen from the curves of simultaneous thermal analysis.

J. Zrnik, I. Vitez, T. Kovarik, M. Cieslar - Forming of ultrafine grained structure in aluminium by CGP method

The severe plastic deformation method known as constrained groove pressing (CGP) was used to produce ultrafine grained (UFG) structure in recrystallized aluminium (99.99%) at room temperature. The impact of repeated groove pressing, upon microstructure refinement was investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of thin foils. The changes in mechanical properties measured by tensile and by hardness tests were related to microstructure development. The yield stress and ultimate tensile strength reached a maximum after four passes. The loss of ductility was observed in all processed plates. Hardness values measured in different area of the deformed plates indicated strain heterogeneity distribution, regardless the high straining was maintained.

S. Bockus, G. Zaldarys - Influence of the section size and holding time on the graphite parameters of ductile iron production

This work was conducted to establish the conditions required to produce a desirable structure of the castings of various section sizes. This investigation was focused on the study of the influence of cooling rate or section size and holding time on graphite parameters of the ductile iron. Plates having thickness between 3 and 50mm were cast in sand molds using the same melt. The present investigation has shown that the section size of ductile iron castings and holding time had strong effect on the graphite parameters of the castings.

J. Siwka, A. Hutny - An universal formula for the calculation of nitrogen solubility in liquid nitrogen-alloyed steels

The results of the authors' own experimental studies on the Fe - N system, its standard state, binary alloys of iron with chromium, molybdenum, manganese, nickel, vanadium, silicon and carbon, as well as ternary alloys with chromium, have made it possible to work out the whole required complex of parameters of nitrogen interaction in liquid iron alloys, including the self-interaction parameters of nitrogen-nitrogen and nitrogen-alloying elements.

A. Gigović-Gekić, M. Oruč, I. Vitez, B. Vujičić - Analyse and research of nonmetallic inclusions for steel 100Cr6

Steel 100Cr6 belongs to a group of hardened steels, which are applicable for production of rolling element parts. Because of specific working conditions, a proper chemical composition is required with a minimum content of nonmetallic inclusion. In this paper, the research results of presence the nonmetallic inclusions and their chemical composition are presented for the steel produced in vacuum and open induction electric furnace and their influence on the prescribed properties for this steel. The optical and scanning electronic microscope are used to identify presence and the chemical compositions of nonmetallic inclusions.

J. Lis, A. Lis - Phase transformations in low-carbon manganese steel 6Mn16

The kinetics of phase transformations of the austenite of 6Mn16 steel during continuous cooling are presented in a CCT diagram. Manganese partitioning between ferrite and austenite during intercritical annealing is enhanced by prior soft annealing. Due to the increased Mn concentration in austenite, the temperatures BS and MS have decreased, as compared to those achieved during cooling from the complete austenite region.

T. Muhič, J. Tušek, M. Pleterski, D. Bombač - Problems in repair-welding of duplex-treated tool steels

The present paper addresses problems in laser welding of die-cast tools used for aluminum pressure die-castings and plastic moulds. To extend life cycle of tools various surface improvements are used. These surface improvements significantly reduce weldability of the material. This paper presents development of defects in repair welding of duplex-treated tool steel. The procedure is aimed at reduction of defects by the newly developed repair laser welding techniques. Effects of different repair welding process parameters and techniques are considered. A microstructural analysis is conducted to detect defect formation and reveal the best laser welding method for duplex-treated tools.

E. Weiss, G. Fedorko, P. Futáš, A. Pribulová, I. Vasková - Dependence of quality properties for grey iron on used raw materials

Grey iron castings keep the first place among castings on base of iron. Present trend in growing entrance production costs of cast stock force manufacturer to cost minimizing. Therefore is most actual deal replacement pig iron by steel scrap. In contribution are presented results research work relating to influence of raw materials on grey iron properties.

Z. Car, B. Barisic, M. Ikonic - GA based CNC turning center exploitation process parameters optimization

This paper presents machining parameters (turning process) optimization based on the use of artificial intelligence. To obtain greater efficiency and productivity of the machine tool, optimal cutting parameters have to be obtained. In order to find optimal cutting parameters, the genetic algorithm (GA) has been used as an optimal solution finder. Optimization has to yield minimum machining time and minimum production cost, while considering technological and material constrains.

S. Žic, I. Džambas, M. Ikonić - Possibilities of implementing bimetallic hammer castings in crushing industries

For decades manganese steel casts have been most used materials for manufacturing elements subjected to impact and high stress abrasion. These materials are used in countless industrial applications that involve crushing of raw material by impact. Some of most important characteristics of manganese cast steels are work-hardening and high strength. Opposite from manganese steels, highly alloyed white cast irons are materials with high amount of hard carbide phases that shows better abrasion resistance but have lower strength and impact energy. Aim of this paper is to investigate possibilities to reduce costs and maintenance periods by implementing bimetallic materials.

Z. Hajduová, E. Weiss, L. Mixtaj - Application of statistical methods at copper wire manufacturing

Six Sigma is a method of management that strives for near perfection. The Six Sigma methodology uses data and rigorous statistical analysis to identify defects in a process or product, reduce variability and achieve as close to zero defects as possible. The paper presents the basic information on this methodology.

E. Pop, N. Bãncilã, V. Hotea, A. Pop, R. Pop - The use of the geosynthetic materials for the antierosional protection of the metallurgical tailing dumps

The anti-erosion geosynthetic is a three-dimensional element formed of tangled extruded filaments that form a labyrinth structure. It is used for the protection against erosion of the plants and of the riverbanks. It has the capacity to protect the soil against being washed away and allows the rapid growth of the roots of the plants.

B. Gajdzik - Environmental aspects, strategies and waste logistic system based on the example of metallurgical company

The aim of this article is to present the key elements of environmental management system in metallurgical companies. This companies in use the Cleaner Production Strategy. All modern strategies are based on dynamic environmental model. Production processes still create waste and pollution although a significant amount is now recycled. For example in metallurgical companies located in the Polish market about 80% of solid waste is recycled. The minimization or complete removal of damages caused by metallurgical production are a necessary and important aspect of maintaining a competitive edge.
