REFORMED CHRISTIAN CHURCH includes several different confessions formed during the reformation period in 16th century. The denomination’s name explains its nature; it was reformed, modernized and changed, and the reformists hoped that it was changed for the better. Because of the fact that Reformed churches form a union of common beliefs, and are not guided by any of ecclesiastical power centers, it should be mentioned that Reformed churches are autonomous in the political borders of existing countries. They are associated in alliances. Likewise the Reformed Christiann Church is a member of the WORLD ASSOCIATION OF THE REFORMED CHURCHES with headquarters in Switzerland and over 75 millions active believers. The Reformed Christiann Church was formed during social and spiritual turmoil in Switzerland. The ideological initiator was Rev. Huldrich Zwingli (1484-1531). The City Council of Zurich responsible for the initiation of reforms aimed to bring Christiannity back to its New Testament origins. The most important theological representative was JEAN CALVIN (1509 - 1564.) His work was of great importance in the development of systematic theology, and his most significant book, “The Institutions of Christiann religion” (Christiannae Religionis Institutio), was printed for the first time in 1536. Among the distinguished 20th century theologians we should mention Karl Barth (1886- 1968), professor of New Testament theology and Church History. His involvement in activities includes work against Nazism and his efforts in establishing a theology based on the Bible and a rationally elaborated system. He undermined the foundations of theological anthropocentrism and liberal theology. Emil Bruner (1889.-1966.), professor of systematic and practical theology, was actively involved in the ecumenical movements from 1930. The Reformed Church has significant influence in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Great Britain (Scotland), Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, the United States of America and elsewhere. The Reformed Church has been present in Croatia from the earliest beginnings of the reformation. Until the beginning of counter-reformation, it had great influence among the peoples of Croatia. According to data brought up in the book “Christiannity on Croatian Soil” by Prof. Franjo Šanjek, there were, until the 1551, 120 parishes of the Reformed and Evangelical Church in Slavonia. The fact that the first Synod was held on May 17, 1551 in the vicinity of Vinkovci tells us about the major presence of the Reformed Church in Croatia. While he walked the earth, the Lord Jesus Christ preached and taught, healed and fed. Following his example we believe that alongside preaching the Good News Gospel and teaching the Bible, we should act in a way that edifies the community and their citizens. For this reason we try our best to do our share of the building, healing and renewal of our community. We believe that differences make us all richer, and for that reason we encourage inter-confessional dialogue and tolerance. We participate in inter-confessional communication.
From the beginning of time, man has been seeking for answers to questions about the meaning and purpose of life and where do we go after death. From the earliest times people have been offering answers to these eternal questions. It is impossible to number all the philosophers, scientists, theologians, laymen, gurus and teachers who have offered answers to deepest of these questions. They all have something in common; they lived, sought answers, preached and taught. But as they came, so they went away. And the answers they left behind are only a small contribution to human civilization. From the moment of appearance of Jesus of Nazareth, born in a stable near Bethlehem, whose birth we celebrate, according to tradition, on December 25th, the answers to eternal questions were given a new, additional dimension. This religious teacher, who was, according to Christiann belief, much more than a messenger of religious and philosophical ideas, left a remarkable trace on human civilization. He offered the answer to eternal questions and showed the way to meaningful life on earth and eternal life after death. Through his words and deeds, He taught us that the answer to eternal questions is to be found in faith. He showed the way to God, His words tell us and His deeds show us that through him we can meet the Almighty. The Lord Jesus Christ revealed the Truth, His deeds showed us the Truth, His death and resurrection bring us to the Truth. Seeking the answers to eternal questions is part of the quest of every man and woman from the beginning of human history. Some of those people are satisfied with temporary and imperfect answers, but those who uncompromisingly seek the Truth discover the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God and Savior of humanity and possibly their personal Savior. The intent of this message is to encourage you to think about the meaning of your life and to start studying the life and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, and maybe TO DECIDE TO STEER YOUR WAY IN THE DIRECTION OF FAITH AND LIFE WITH THE LORD. This decision was made by many who are seeking the answers to eternal questions, and we encourage you to do the same. |
