ISRAEL SATISFIED WITH SAKIC'S VERDICT

ZAGREB, Oct 7 (Hina) - Israel is satisfied with the verdict reached by the Zagreb County court in the case of Dinko Sakic, the Israeli foreign Ministry said in a statement forwarded to Hina by the Israeli Embassy based in Vienna.

Israel is satisfied with the decision of the Croatian court to find war criminal Dinko Sakic guilty and sentence him to the harshest possible sentence according to Croatian law, the statement said, adding that Sakic, who is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people -- including thousands of Jews -- in the Jasenovac concentration camp during World War II, had been brought to the face of justice.

Israel expressed hope that after these court proceedings other legal steps would be taken against the remaining nazi war crimes.

The Zagreb County court sentenced Sakic Monday to 20 years in prison.
